Our next Jane Jacobs Walk is nearly here in the city of Albany, NY!
To learn more about Jane Jacobs, read our post from last year.
Walk with us on Sunday, May 4!
DATE: Sunday, May 4, 2025
TIME: 1:00 - 2:30ish
PLACE: Stacks Espresso, 488 Broadway, Albany
NEIGHBORHOOD: Downtown Albany
Meet at Stacks Espresso and grab a drink or snack to go. From there we’ll head out together on our walk. You can see the route map here.
We’ll start by walking over the Hudson River Way (above I-787) to Jennings Landing and the Hudson River, swoop back up to Broadway, walk through the “parking lot district”, up to the Empire State Plaza. Then we’ll pass by the New York State Capitol, taking State Street to North Pearl Street towards the Palace Theatre and come back down Broadway, ending back at Stacks. It’s a 2.3 mile loop and we’ll finish within an hour and half.
What to bring
Make sure you have good walking shoes, drinking water, and anything else you might need. We’re planning to walk rain or shine except in cases of serious weather, so check the forecast and prepare accordingly. If we do need to reschedule, we’ll send an email out on Sunday morning.
How to prepare
You don’t really need to prepare! Jane Jacobs Walks let people share stories about their communities, explore their cities and connect with their neighbors. It’s not a guided tour or lecture, it’s just a walking conversation! We’ll have some questions to get us started and feel free to think about any stories or personal connections you have to spots along our walk. If you’d rather do more listening than talking, that’s ok too! All are welcome.
Jane's Walk isn't your typical guided tour— it's a lively conversation on foot.

Who is leading Jane Jacobs Walk Albany?
Jane Jacobs Walks are community-led and organized. These Albany walks were started by us, Mary A. Rosch and Christine Hmiel Schudde, in 2024. We both love Albany, Jane Jacobs, thinking about cities, cultivating community, and doing what we can to make Albany the best place to live!
